Thinking out loud about life: lifestyles & labels

I hate the word “lifestyle.”

To me, people living out “lifestyles” is akin to them placing themselves in a little box or boxes slapped with a sticker indicating the perception they wish to have of themselves or somehow with which they already identify.

Understanding some sort of self-identity and having self-awareness is nearly essential, but more to the point: Quit defining yourself and just go live life.

Go ahead: have interests, beliefs, causes, do things, love people, love God, etc. But just be you and do your thing instead of getting caught up in labeling yourself because of that thing or those things you do — your career, your hobbies, your party affiliation, etc.

Maybe it’s just me, but getting wrapped up in your self-definition and the idea of that label in general runs the risk of drastically shrinking the size of the world around you.

Hey dude, found your blog (cause you found mine first). Anyhow, I totally dig it and I completely agree with your post on labels. People should just have “tags” instead ;)
